KATE KRIDER PAINTING & SCULPTURESPIRIT HOUSES 2
|

|
Kate Krider's sculptural work consists of mixed media constructions based on the spirit houses of S.E. Asia where she has traveled extensively. Every home has an altar in the form of a small structure where offerings are made daily to the Buddha, the spirits of ancestors, and various deities depending on the country and the belief system. Small square of gold leaf are purchased and applied to holy objects to gain merit in the spiritual world. Krider uses images and iconography that are often incongruous, irreverent, and at time humorous, juxtaposing dissimilar ideas and mixed religious metaphors. She is interested in exploring the relationship between what is considered sacred in the ancient and traditional world with contemporary ideas and imagery.
